Water Replenishment Project with Coca-Cola
Treehouse worked with Coca-Cola and its Simply (almond milk) brand team to complete a water-replenishment project in orchards that provide Simply’s almond supply
Treehouse California Almonds and one of its third-generation almond growers are proud partners in The Almond Project, a multi-year initiative aimed at advancing more sustainable almond farming methods.
The Almond Project’s mission is to preserve natural resources, enable ecosystem regeneration, protect farming communities, and ensure that there will be nutritionally rich California almonds for generations to come.
This sustainable farming initiative is able to pursue such goals thanks to the contributions of a vibrant coalition of farmers, scientists, brands, technical service providers, processors, and customers.
Project partners are implementing and testing a range of regenerative soil health practices on almond farms in California. They are measuring and comparing outcomes across soil and ecosystem health factors such as water holding capacity and infiltration, carbon sequestration, and ecosystem biodiversity. Key soil health practices include:
Multi-Species Cover Crops
Animal Integration in Cropping Systems
Increased Compost Application
Input Reduction for Ecosystem Health
The climate crisis poses a dire threat to almonds and the farmers whose livelihoods depend on them. We believe that healthy soil is key to the longevity of almond farming.
However, practical research has been hard to come by. The Almond Project partners are contributing to our base of knowledge about how to sustain and improve soil health. In the long term, the Project seeks to provide farmers and food companies with compelling proof points about the benefits of adopting practices that may help to regenerate California’s working lands.
The Almond Project brings together a broad range of almond industry participants. All are advocates for more sustainable food systems and more resilient California agriculture.
The Almond Project invites new partners to contribute to our body of research, which aims to support scalable sustainability practices in commercial agriculture in California.
Through tenacious pioneering and partnership, Treehouse contributes to greater efficiency and sustainability in the almond industry.

Building on a commitment to conserve water, Treehouse and its almond farmer partners are creating recharge basins that serve to return surface water to local aquifers.
The Gardiner family of almond growers is working with Treehouse to cultivate plants in its orchards to support pollinating insects, such as bees.
